Who is the PTO?
If your child attends Jefferson Elementary, YOU are a member of the PTO. PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization.
When and Where does the PTO meet?
The PTO typically meets the second Tuesday of each school month in the Media Center. See your school calendar for details. You can also click on our calendar button above for specific dates.
What does the PTO do?
The PTO volunteers our time in classrooms, raises funds to help provide supplies for the classroom, assemblies, safety/service squad field trip, and hosts fun activities for the entire family.
Why should I participate?
Because without parental help, fun events can’t happen. If you would like to participate, come to a meeting and learn about what we are doing for the school. Watch your child’s backpack for opportunities to help. Also, by being involved in the PTO, you get an inside scoop on upcoming events.
Studies have also shown that students whose parents were involved in their child’s school typically had better grades.
How can I help?
Again, watch your child’s backpack for opportunities to help out. If you would like more specific information, please don’t hesitate to contact the PTO board members at [email protected] or leave a note in the PTO mailbox.
Fundraisers
We hate having our kids selling door to door and try to do as little of that kind of fundraising as possible. The more people who participate in the “Painless” fundraisers, the fewer fundraisers we need to have.
Some of our biggest painless fundraisers are Market Day, Box Tops for Education, Target Rewards, Meijer Rewards, Tyson Labels, Teracycle and VG sales receipts.
Family Events
Harvest Festival, Family Game Night and Ice Cream Social are fun events for the family.
How the PTO funds are spent
A great portion of the funds are spent on Teacher Reimbursements to help offset their out of pocket classroom purchases.
It also helps pay for Teacher Appreciation Week Events. The PTO helps fund assemblies (Authors in Autumn for example), helps with Fifth grade camp expenses, and the Safety and Service Squad Field Trip. The PTO also has special family events like the first day of school Tears and Cheers provided at no cost to the parent.
In 2013, we were excited to purchase new swings for the playground.
